Hello,

Mesacol and Mesacol OD contain the same drug Mesalamine (Mesalazine) which is an anti-inflammatory drug used to treat Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) like Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.

They differ in their dose and frequency of administration is:
1. Mesacol 400 mg: The recommended dosage in adults is two 400 mg - 800 mg to be taken 3 times a day
2. Mesacol 1200 mg once a day: 1-2 tablets once daily

Since, you are unable to get Mesacol once a day, 1.2 gm (1200 mg), hence you can take 400 mg tablets as advised by your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
