Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking atorvastatin last week and now I bleed out when I prick my finger for my glucose checking. I get sores, and I bruise without hardly getting hit by any thing. The sores bleed out and it is hard to stop them also. Is it the atorvastatin causing me to bleed out?
Atorvastatin is not known to cause bleeding as a side effect. Atorvastatin can effect liver function which in turn could affect bleeding. It may be that you have been advised medicine like dispirin or clopidogerel (blood thinners) along with Atorvastatin, but even these cannot affect the way you describe.
You need to get yourself investigated-Id recommend a hemogram along with Prothrombin Time and Liver function tests for my patients.
