What Are The Effects Of Taking Alpha-lipoic Acid When Having Amalgam Fillings?

Message_Description: I started taking alpha-lipoic acid in combination with other supplements for various health reasons, but I only recently read about the dangers related to it causing chelation of heavy-metals. I m freaking out because I have amalgam fillings. Should I be concerned?

Hi,

My answer is No for several reasons. The amount of leaching of amalgam metal is basically not measurable. You can get blood levels of the metals if you are concerned to verify that you do not have the levels in your system.

Second. Good news/bad news. Supplements are not controlled/monitored that they have what they say they have in them. They generally do not have very much in the way of expensive ingredients in them. It is a shame because alpha lipoic acids seem to be important:

But they are already present in you, So a little extra isn't going to significantly change the amount that is already there.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman
