What Are The Foods That Contain Low Potassium?

My husband was told by his kidney doctor that he had way to much potassium in is body and he was passing some blood through his kidneys. My question is: What can I feed him that would be safe/ He is 77 years old and loves vegetables and fruit, but I was told those were bad for him. Right?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Almost all foods contain at least a small amount of potassium.

There are some foods which contain a high level of potassium, examples are: (1) fruits such as bananas, coconut, melon, plantains, apricots
(2)vegetables such as beets, broccoli, raw carrots or cabbage, tomatoes, pickles
(3)dairy products
(4)drinks such as sport drinks , soy milk
(5)grains- whole grain breads, granula

This is not a complete list, you may want to ask your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist who may be able to help you with a diet plan.

If the changes in the kidney are acute and due to a reversible cause, it is possible his levels of potassium may return to normal and he can resume his normal diet.

I hope this helps
