I am a smoker {of almost 20yrs} and a few years ago I had a few gagging fits when I would inhale. The last few months that gagging happens more and more but not all the time {and w/o sounding a bi*** please dont lecture me on how bad smoking is and I need to quit. I know this and have been thinking bout it for awhile now} Also the last few months when eating I have to have a drink right next to me b/c from time to time I will feel as I am chocking on my food. Sometimes I even have to spit it out b/c I feel my throat close {or feels that way anyways} Cancer runs in my family and my anxiety has been real bad/high the last year in a half due to my son being the victim of a sexual crime from a family member. Could these gagging fits and eating issues be from that or do you think there is something more serious going on??

What Are The Ill Effects Of Prolonged Smoking?
Hi Prolonged smoking can cause lung cancer. Since you are chocking on your food i will advise u to do a CT scan of chest with contrast. If any space occupying lesion is found in the scan then biopsy has to be done to rule out cancer. Regards DR De
