What Are The Light Dry Patches Of Skin Around Chin And Cheek?
My baby is 6 weeks old & has patches of lighter skin around on her chin & cheeks, Mother is Indian & father is Caribbean. She had very dry skin & I am using the cream Aveeno. What are these patches? Will they spread? When will they disappear? Mrs S. Reid
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I will keep a possibility of pityriasis alba. First of all, I would like to assure you that Pityriasis Alba is not a skin disease at all. These are light colored patches (lighter than the surrounding skin); they can be somewhat scaly as well, the light color being actually due to post-inflammatory hypopigmentation The patches are common on dry skin. I usually recommend using a good moisturizer, twice daily. You can also use an OTC topical steroid e.g 1% Hydrocortisone twice daily for the patches, over and above the moisturizer. That should make the patches fade away in 2-3 weeks.
