I am 75 years old .undergone angiography and diagnosed having atrial fibrilation but no blockage anywhere.taking medicines for the same prescribed by cardiologist. Liquid consumption not to exceed 1800ml. No pressure to be exerted during bowel movement.taking tab.dulcoflex 20mg on alternate days asper cardiologist advice. How dulcoflex will affect in the long run?
Hello Dulcolax is a stimulant purgative ( bisacodyl ) 10 mg normal dose ,your cardiologist precribed a right dose 20 mg on alternate day. Dulcolax produces fluid evacuations & cramps in some individuals . Morphological alterations in the colonic mucosa have been observed ---mucosa become more leaky. Some patients feel some skin rashes , but in few cases it may cause inflammation and mucosal damage ,so patient may require high doses after prolong period i.e. addiction. So these are minor side effects and in the beginning patient feel such symptoms . After some time you will not feel any symptoms so need not to worry . But addiction is one problem , you may face after prolong period ,but that is not sure and certain . So take this as prescribed . Good luck.
