What Are The Long-term Side Effects Of Food-grade Diatomaceous Earth?
I would really like a doctors opinion on the daily intake of Diatomaceous earth food grade. Is it safe for my 3 year old daughter to take on a daily basis? A few months ago there was a serious outbreak of the thread worm in the daycare that my daughter attends to. It was suggested by her her daycare for her to take a 1/4 teaspoon twice daily to rid of the parasites organically. I did a lot research and I am very convinced that it is a healthy way for our family to rid ourselves of this nasty parasite! I am still a little skeptical of the long term side affects.
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the safety and efficacy of food-grade diatomaceous earth in the treatment of thread worm infestations.
There have been no clinical trials done to claim its efficacy and safety in the treatment of worm infestations like thread worms or pin worms. Hence, it’s not approved by the FDA for any clinical indication.
When diatomaceous earth is eaten, very little is absorbed into the body. The remaining portion is rapidly excreted. So, the long term side effects are unlikely. Children may be especially sensitive to pesticides compared to adults.
Hope this answers your query.
