What Are The Possible Treatments For Tilted Uterus ?

My doctor suggests an abdominal hysterectomy because I have a very tilted uterus, more tilted than he usually sees. He feels that it would be difficult to do it as a laproscopic procedure. I would like another opinion because of the difference in recovery time and difficulties associated with an abdominal procedure.

Hello and welcome,

tilted uterus per se is not an indication for a hysterectomy. I am not sure if you are having any other issues.

About the laproscopic versus conventional procedures: if the surgeon feels that laproscopically it will be difficult I suggest that you honor that opinion. We, as surgeons, are able to decide the level of difficulty as well as the amount of risk associated with procedures after exsamination and investigations.

Even though the name of the procedure is the same 'laproscopic hysterectomy' it does not mean that every procedure will carry the same risk or will have the same level of difficulty.

So if he says that the hysterectomy will be difficult with a scope you have two options: See another doctor get examined and then let him decide about the level of risk. If they both agree then it is better to go by their advice however if they disagree then you may discuss the pros and cons of the procedure with both and then go for a decision.

Here we tend to do a vaginal hysterectomy called non descent vaginal hysterectomy where there is no need even to insert the tree holes for the scope. It is completely scarless and recovery time is very less. So you may discuss this option also with your doctors.

Hope this satisfies your query.
