What Are The Precautions To Be Taken When Working In Plastic Factories?

I work in a plastic factory, and a co-worker received third (possibly fourth) degree burns today when one of the machines ejected melted plastic onto his hands and face. They washed his eyes in the eye wash station and he was immediately taken to the hospital and received proper care. For future reference in this type of situation, what immediate action should be taken to reduce injury from this type of burn, before placing the person in a car and going to the emergency room?
