What Are The Reasons For Having Occasional Swelling On Left Side Of Throat And Feeling Of Soft Lump?
Hi. Once in a while I get some random swelling on the left side of my throat. Nothing hurts and it feels like a soft lump. It will clear up in a couple of days but does return. I am not feeling sick this started about 3 years ago and have had this approx once vert 6 weeks. An ultrasound revealed nothing and the family doctor says it is a salt gland.
Hello, I suspect the lump could be a enlarged lymph nodes in neck. Infection is the foremost common cause of enlarged lymph nodes in neck. The lymph glands near to an infection swell quickly and become tender as the immune system 'fights off' infecting germs (bacteria, viruses, etc) The lymph glands usually go back to their normal pea size when the infection is over. It can take a week or so for them gradually to go back to normal after the infection. Some common conditions are Throat infections, tonsillitis, the common cold and tooth-related infections may cause lymph glands in the neck to swell.
This can be easily treated with antibiotics and lozenges. Lymph glands in the neck may swell up and down if you have frequent throat infections.
Hope this helps. Please write back for further queries. Wishing you good health.
