Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Remedies To Cure Short Breath Of GURT Other Than Medicines?
My daughter went to the ER last night due to having problems catching her breath. After an examination, X-ray and treatment they determined she has GURT. They gave her a prescription for Zantac, but I am unable to fill it due to snowfall. She is feeling better but still has a little bit of the shortness of breath. What else can I do for her until I can get to the drugstore?
Gastro esophageal reflux(GERD) is caused by the regurgitation of gastric(stomach) contents into esophagus
Before giving any recommendations I want to know your daughter's age. If she is an infant you can try few things at home like - Slightly elevating the head side of her crib while she is sleeping - If she is at least 5 months of age, you can try thickening her bottle before bed with rice cereal. If she is breast fed, you can pump your breast milk for this purpose. -After feeding , do not lay her down immediately. Carry her around upright and try burping for at least 10 minutes
Since your doctor has prescribed Zantac for her GERD, you must also start her on it as soon as possible.
Hope I was able to answer your question Regards, Dr. Lekshmi
