Hello,
Firstly, sorry to hear about the 3 knee replacements then now amputation. It's a big pain I can understand that.
Coming to the query, well below
knee amputation might work if you having
gangrene or
necrosis of the limb due to uncontrolled sugar levels. Also before you undergo amputation of the below knee I would recommend that you first need to strengthen the other joints of the body leaving the amputation limb. Because post amputation your upper
limbs and the other lower limb will be supposed to take the whole body weight and if you are weak in that state it will be difficult to make you back on feet. To overcome the helplessness situation I will recommend getting the strength in the upper limbs and the other lower limb so that the recovery post surgery will happen faster with less pain.
In my clinical practice of over 12 years most cases seen by me of amputation I have always advised and worked on the other limbs and joints to make them stronger. In about 90% of cases the post surgery recovery is excellent with 10% who were not taking the exercise as that important as the surgery.
I hope you will take the wise decision now to take the exercise before hand to get prepared for the post Surgical recovery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
