Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I took some Advil this afternoon and sometimes I take pills with water. I did not think it was all that dangerous, but I keep feeling pain in my chest every time I swallow. Is it possible that it became stuck? I immediately drank water a few minutes after I took the pills and have been drinking/eating for hours since. What should I do?
Hello, Thank you for posting your question to HCM,
Advil (Ibuprofen) is a pretty safe medicine in general. The most common side effect is the stomach pain, experienced as a burning sensation. Taking them with water is good, but taking also with meal, or after it will be helpful to avoid the pain to start.
If that is still troublesome, then try to avoid taking it, or if you really need to take it use it together with a Proton pomp inhibitor like omeprazole 20mg, esomeprazole 40mg, ect. A substitute for advil, in lighter pains is Paracetamol. It is maybe the only of the pain killers that doesn't cause pain in the stomach.
Hope the information helps. Let me know if you have any question, or if you need any more clarifications. I would be happy to answer.
Take care, Dr. Klarida Papaqako.
