Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do I need to take metformin, Diamicron and Lantus insulin all for Type 2 diabetes? It seems excessive. Are there any negative interactions with lithium carbonate and these drugs? Why must I take Altace aka Ramipril, when my blood pressure is normal?
Hello and thank you for your question. The important thing about diabetes is not which or how many medications you take but how well controlled your sugars are. If it takes all three of those medications to get your A1c in normal range then it is not too much medication. We always recommend that diabetics take an ACE-inhibitor like ramipril to protect the kidney. Having diabetes is very hard on the kidney even if it is well controlled and ACE-inhibitors can protect the kidney from this damage. Good health to you.
