Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking amoxicillin 875 MG 2 times a day for about 7 days now. I had very itchy hands when I started, it seemed to subside but last night and today I have been scratching CONSTANTLY. I itch everywhere, but mostly it s my hands and feet. I also take furosemide 10mg per day and lisinopril 5mg per day for hypertension. I doubt it s a drug interaction since my doc has prescribed them all. Please help, I can t keep this up, and want to stop taking the amoxicillin.
Hi Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the safety for the prescribed medications.
Amoxicillin is known to cause allergic reaction like rash, diarrhea, and itching. But in your case it is Lisinopril which is more likely to cause severe allergic reaction in the form of intense itching, swelling of the face and the lips, and dry cough due to accumulation of a substance known as Bradykinin.
In view of the above explanation, you may ask your treating doctor to use the alternate drug to control the high BP.
Hope this answers your query.
A feed back is appreciated.
