I heard an elderly women with low weight in her eighties should never take more then 5 mg. of Aricept. Is What are the side effects of
that true? And what is the best time to take Aricept and why?
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Aricept is Donepezil and the drug is a cholinergic drug. The drug is one of commonly used drug for dementia. The drug is a safe drug for dementia and is usually used with doses of 5-10 mg per day. Even its use in grand elderly is considered as safe. The drug is known to cause nausea, sedation, diarrhoea etc side effects. Over all the drug is safe and hallucinations as side effect of drug are rare. The drug should be used preferable in morning hours. For her hallucinations consult her psychiatrist. Persisting hallucinations could be occurring due to dementia and cognitive decline. Visit her psychiatrist for details.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
