What Are The Side Effects Of Axitinib?

my husband has advanced kidney cancer and finished a 4 round of sutent 50mg that did not work. 2 tumors have increased in size and now his cancer doctor wants him to start on a chemo drug called axitinib. it has a lot of side effects and he had rt kidney removed 4-23 of last yr. he has high blood pressure losing weight and tired all the time. hes on pallitive care at this time.we just want to know have other pts taken this drugand what as their reaction being this drug on has been on the market for 3 yrs

1. Axitinib is inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor ,approved for second-line treatment of advanced (RCC). The trials on the drug are limited but (whatever available) studies are indicating some promise with Axitinib.

2.Obviously there are safety concern with it. Studies have found High blood pressure in 16% patient similarly other side effects are also there.

3. Almost all anticancer drugs have side effect sometimes even to the level of toxic effect. But they are being used as choices are limited.Continuous monitoring/follow up is needed for many side effect of this drug Axitinib.

4. A doctor compares the risk & expected benefit and then take a clinical judgement. So after selecting a competent doctor please keep faith upon him and better to go with his/her opinion. The doctor should also inform all aspects to the family and to take a informed decision.
