What Are The Side Effects Of Benzonatate?

I recently was prescribed Benzonatate 200Mgs for a horrific cough, and about 30 minutes after taking the Benzonatate I ended up with a rash and a horrible stomach ace on 10/20/15. I was wondering how long does it take for it to be cleansed from Benzonatate. I can t seem to get rid of a sever stomach ache. After I eat something light, boiled eggs, toast, jello or banana I throw it back up because of my stomach pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Benzonatate can cause the following side effects:
Hypersensitivity reactions including itching, skin rash or difficulty in breathing.
Stomach upset like nausea, vomiting and abdominal discomfort.
Since you have developed these side effects you should stop taking this medication, the side effects will subside after 8-10 hours after stopping the medication. For the relief of vomiting you are advised to visit your GP for possible use of anti-emetic drug like Domperidone. Meanwhile take liquid diet, juices, etc.
Hope this will help you.
