Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm being treated for sinus infection and currently taking cefdinir I was told on Friday to stop taking this and start new antibiotic nitrofurantoin because my urine showed a bladder infection. I can not get a hold of my doctor. I was told by pharmacist to take both. I'm confused as why one said to stop taking the first and the pharmacist said both. The only symtoms I have is bad lower back pain. Please advice or should I go see doc tomorrow
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
The two drugs don't have any direct interactions and in theory could be used in combinations. However if you really need treatment for both conditions (at times sinusitis can be managed with only nasal decongestants) what would make more sense instead of using two antibiotics at the same time would be using only the one antibiotic with efficacy both for urinary tract and sinus infections such as the quinolones (levofloxacin). Anyway you'd need a prescription so if you can see your doctor tomorrow you should take his opinion about that as well.
I hope to have been of help.
