Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I m 25 years old, am currently on a ciproflaxin prescription for a uti and am on day 9 of my period. It s usually very heavy and seamed normal for the first 3 days but it has been extremely light with frequent spotting for the last 6 days. The blood ranges from light reddish orange to pink. Could this be due to the cipro?
Interference with the menstrual cycles is not a recognised side effect of Ciprofloxacin. There have been studies on the effect of Ciprofloxacin on the sex hormonal levels and the studies have shown that it does not influence the levels of the hormones. Infections and emotions are known to influence the menstrual cycles and what you experienced may be related to that. Wish you good health. Dr. Noble Zachariah
