I had a thyroidectomy and was on Coversyl +. Being a calcium blocker I was told to get on to something else. my doctor put me on ExforgeHCT & Physiotens. heaps of side effects. I m not very well at all. ExforgeHCT l find out is also a calcium blocker. I would like to go back to Coversyl + with minor side effects. Had to take Calcium pills to feel better. What to do ?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Exforge HCT, as you mentioned contains a mixture of amlodipine, valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide.

Amlodipine is calcium channel blocker in this combination.

There is also a medication combination of only valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide, Valsartan is in the same family of medication as coversyl.

If you wish to go back to the coversyl, you can discuss with your doctor and switch. There are no withdrawal symptoms and no need for a waiting period between the discontinuation of the exforge hct and starting the other medication.

I hope this helps
