Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dr. I had my first fit in November 1991, then 1994 and 1997. Since 1997 I had no fit. I am taking 400 Mg. (4 pills) Fentoin ER since 1997. In 2009 I visited Doctor and he advised me to stop taking fentoin step by step. I mean 3-2-1 in three month but I am still taking 3 pill daily. I have no courage to stop the medicine. Please advide me what are the side effects of Fentoin ER and also advise me what to do now
As advised by your doctor you should stop taking Fentoin step by step. Since it has been years, you have to go back to your consultant and tell him your worries. Long term Fentoin can cause gingival hyperplasia (bleeding gums), depressed mental states and liver failure. So you should make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible and start tapering off your medication.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Hiba Tehrim, General & Family Physician
