Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I wanted to know the side effects of glyburide, my husband is a diabetic and has been on this medication for approx 2yrs. Lately he's been mildly confused and forgetful (which is not like him) and I was wondering if it was the medication. The only other med he is on is metformin. Thank you.
Hello Glyburide is a sulfonylurea type of anti diabetic drug and its side effects are: Agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenis , dizziness, headache, leucopenia . While the side effects of metformin are:nausea, vomiting, dizziness CONFUSION, WEAKNESS and others. In my opinion the confusion and forgetfulness in your husband may be due to metformin . But these side effects are not permanent , while benefits are more ,so continue both medicines as advised your diabetologist . Still your husband is feeling problems with these symptoms then consult your doctor and take his advise. Good luck.
