Hello and Welcome to Hcm.

I can completely understand your concern.

As per your history given, your doc changed your medication from hydrochlorothiazide to ACCURETIC, which is a fixed-combination tablet that combines an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, quinapril hydrochloride, and hydrochlorothiazide.

As you are worried about your surgery, since I don't know what kind of surgery is it,I would recommend not to take the medication the day you're being operated.
As Hyrochlorothiazide being a diuretic, may result in further fluid loss,Electrolyte disturbances, weakness, hypotension,

And I would assure you that the cough is not because of the new medications.Cough is not a side effect of either of the medications. That is completely coincidental.

Hope I helped you with your query.Kindly hit a Thanks.

Please Do write for any followup doubts or queries.

Thanks and wish You good Luck for your surgery.
