Imatinib (tyrosine kinase inhibitor) is commonly prescribed to treat certain types of leukemia (cancer that begins in the white blood cells) and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). It is usually taken with a meal and a large glass of water once or twice a day. The tablets should not be crushed and have to be taken at around the same time(s) every day exactly as prescribed by his doctor. Its common side effects include: stomach upset, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, headache, muscle/joint pain, muscle cramps, dizziness, blurred vision, or drowsiness. It may also cause anemia (decreased hemoglobin), leucopenia (decreased white blood cells) and thrombocytopenia (decreased platelet counts). So, normocytic normochromic anemia with mild anisocytosis appears to be due to one of the side effects of Imatinib, it can be prevented by giving Actorize injections which help to increase his hemoglobin level and thus can prevent normocytic normochromic anemia.
