What Are The Side Effects Of Kenalog Injection?

Hi I am 51 years old, weigh approx 58kg. I had a Kenalog shot into shoft tissue 6 weeks ago and since then my BP has been all over the place and I can feel my heart beating in my chest (mainly when trying to sleep). I am having difficulty sleeping because of it and feel lethargic also. I went to see a Cardiologist who has prescribed me Physiotens 0.2mg (moxonidine) per day to lower my BP. My average BP for the past couple of weeks has been 128/93, pulse 71. Of course it fluctuates sometimes (rarely to 102/100). The medications does not seem to be helping lower my BP and I have been on this med for 5 weeks now. Went back to Doc yesterday and he said that if my BP goes higher than 150/90 then to take 1/2 of a water pill. When trying to get to sleep I am having small involuntary muscle jerking which can waken me out of sleep. Also, my Cardiologist sent my form a CT scan on my brain, which was normal. I am British but live in Bahrain in the Middle East at present. Any suggestions as I don t think the meds are working. Could this episode have been caused by a reaction to the Kenalog shot? Confused.

Hi,

Kenalog injection contains the steroid medication triamcinolone, which is used to reduce inflammation and treat a variety of conditions such as arthritis, allergies, and skin problems. However, like all medications, Kenalog injection can have side effects.

The symptoms you are experiencing, such as high blood pressure, palpitations, and difficulty sleeping, could be side effects of the Kenalog injection. It is known that steroids can cause changes in blood pressure and heart rate, as well as difficulty sleeping and muscle twitching.

However, it is also possible that these symptoms are unrelated to the Kenalog injection and may be due to other factors. It is important to continue working with your doctor to determine the cause of your symptoms and the best treatment plan.

If you are concerned that your medication is not working or that you are experiencing side effects, it is important to discuss this with your doctor. They may adjust your medication or recommend additional tests or treatments.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
