Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently had an AVR and have been prescribed Lasix 40 mg. daily and K Dur. The K Dur has made me Extremely nauseated. I quit taking it and have been replacing K with bananas, oranges, and peaches. Do you have any other suggestion for replacing K?
Hi Thanks for your query. I appreciate your concern for the safety of Lasix.
The common side effects of Lasix include hypokalemia (decrease serum potassium level), hypomagnesemia, toxicity to the ear, increased blood uric acid level, etc.
Since you were given K Dur to correct hypokalemia but unfortunately it caused you nausea, etc so other medications that can be used to correct hypokalemia include Potassium sparing diuretics like Amiloride or Spironolactone.
Consult your treating doctor for the possible use of the above mentioned medications. Regards.
