Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband has bipolar disorder and also vascular dementia he recently had a hypermanic onset and is in the hospital they started him on Latuda with increasing his dosage of Topamax he got better what are the risks of him having another stroke on the Latuda
Hi! I suggest that Latuda and drugs like it, given for Bipolar Affective Disorder have nothing to do with strokes or increasing the chances of having them. Secondly, vascular dementia is not technically a stroke. Instead, I suggest that he be given vinpocetin or a similar central vasodialator along with B vitamins to treat the dementia. Give him intellectual tasks to do like solving puzzles. Meditation and exercise also help greatly. Thanks. Dr. Neel Kudchadkar
