Hi, Ive been on Lexapro 10mg for 1 week I am quite drowsy when i take it first thing in the morning. I am thunking of starting it at around 7pm of an evening. But i fear I will have a very light non deep sleep. I am in the habit in this interim period of taking 6mg of melatonin but i wake up 3 hours later and do not go back to sleep... any ideas?
Lexapro is escitalopram and the drug is a SSRI drug. The drug is a safe anti depressant and anti anxiety drug. Over all the drug is safe but it may result in side effects like nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, restlessness, dizziness, insomnia, drowsiness etc side effects. The potential to cause insomnia is usually the reason that most of clinicians prescribe the drug in morning doses. But in some rare individuals it may cause drowsiness as side effect. These side effects usually reduce in about a couple of weeks. So even if you are having drowsiness still I would advise you to wait for few more days and these effects will reduce. Continue to take melatonin as prescribed for your sleep problems.
Thanks, hope this helps you. Take care
