Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a severe reaction to Lisinopril. Tongue and throat swelled, went to ER was admitted. Told to no longer take Lisinopril. What type of blood pressure meds can I take. One doctor says calcium channel blockers but didn t think I should take beta blockers. Can you tell me why?
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the safety of Lisinopril.
The most common side effects of Lisinopril include: Dry cough, angioedema (swelling of the lips, throat and eyes) due to allergy, increased blood potassium, etc.
The safe and effective alternate medications include Angiotensin receptor blocker, Calcium channel blocker, or Cardioselective beta blockers. The choice of a suitable and effective medication depends upon the age, concurrent medical illness such as diabetes and air way disease.
Consult your treating doctor for the right medication.
Hope this answers your query.
