Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM.
Incomplete data: Indication for the use of
Metronidazole during pregnancy?
I appreciate your concern for the safety of Metronidazole during pregnancy.
As per the Food and Drug Administration Metronidazole is a pregnancy "B" category drug: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. However, Use of metronidazole for
trichomoniasis is contraindicated during the first trimester.
Since you are already in the 32nd week of pregnancy, you may continue to take Metronidazole as prescribed by your treating doctor.
Continue to take Iron and
Folic acid tablets, regular ante natal checkups, measurement of BP, urine examinations and
ultrasound scan as and when required by your obstetrician.
Hope this answers your query.
