Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, how are you? I gave birth in December and I am now on birth control pills (microgynon ed ferrous fumarate). I have finished my first pack, however, I have not yet resumed my monthly cycle. Is this normal? I have began a second pack but still no menstrual.
Hi, I am fine. I appreciate your concern for the safety of Microgynon 30. Incomplete data like age, purpose of using Microgynon.
First of all Microgynon can reduce the production of breast milk & for this reason it should not be used by the lactating mother until weaning, or at least 6 months after the birth. Other methods of contraception are more suitable for women who are breastfeeding.
The most common side effects of Microgynon include: Nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, headache, weight gain, skin pigmentation. The serious side effects include deep vein thrombosis, high BP, increased risk of heart attack and stroke, jaundice, etc.
Usually withdrawal bleeding starts within 2-3 days of stopping Microgynon, lack of bleeding is suggestive of hormonal imbalance.
A gynecologist consultation is recommended.
