Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for both you and your daughter as follows:
1. As you have asked, Myteka (
montelukast) has mild side effects, like
stomach upset,
nausea, headache, etc. If you are not experiencing these you can take it for long duration.
2. Asthma is a chronic disorder and requires long term treatment and a lot of patience and care.
3. As your asthma is not controlled with Montelukast alone, I would suggest addition of inhaled
corticosteroids as controller medications. I would like to mention that inhaled corticosteroids are always better than oral corticosteroids.
4. I would suggest you
allergy testing for common air-borne allergens such as house dust mites, molds, pollens, insect proteins, animal dander, etc. This will help you identify substances causing allergies to you as well as to know the measures to reduce exposure.
5. Based on allergy testing, an Allergist-Immunologist may prescribe you allergen specific
immunotherapy which works on immune system to gradually improve allergy symptoms and reduce medicine requirements.
6. In general, please avoid exposure to dusts, smokes and air pollution as much as possible.
7. Regular
breathing exercise and healthy diet rich in vitamins & minerals will also help you to improve lung capacity and immunity respectively.
8. Please note that all above information will be same for your daughter as well.
Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.
Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.
Wish you and your daughter the best of the health ahead.
Thank you & Regards.
