I appreciate your concern for the safety of
Prednisone tablets.
The common side effects associated with the use of Prednisone.
Short-term effects (up to 3 weeks of therapy);
Weight gain and fluid accumulation (oedema), increased blood sugar,decreased potassium level, gastrointestinal upset and ulceration, reversible
depression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, and mood changes and abnormal behavior.
Long-term effects (more than 3 weeks of therapy);
Cushingoid appearance, abnormal facial hair growth, impotence, and menstrual irregularities,
peptic ulcer disease, cataracts and increased intraocular pressure/glaucoma, myopathy,
osteoporosis, and fracture spine.
Regarding Humira (
Adalimumab).. it is not given on daily basis, found to be more effective in the maintenance therapy.
The commonly reported side effects include
Immediate (infusion related): chills, rigors, joint pain and fever
Late effects: risk of infection (re-activation of TB, pneumonia, etc)
