Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 10 years and has had her first period two months back, but the 3rd time round, the flow was very very heavy. I have seen a doctor, who has put her on Primolut-nor 10mg - 2 tablets a day for three days till the period stopped and one tablet a day for 15 days. What is this tablet for and how does it affect her. Please let me know
Primolut contains Norethisterone similar to the natural female hormone progesterone. It is used to treat irregular menstrual periods with heavy and / or persistent bleeding that has no identified cause. During the starting of periods known as menarche, the cycles may be irregular for a few months. The body adjusts to the rising hormone levels and needs time regularising the levels. Drugs may interfere with such process. Irregular bleeding, abdominal cramps, dizziness or fatigue can occur as common side effects of the drug.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
