What Are The Side Effects Of Sprintec 28 During Breastfeeding?
I was prescribed Sprintec 28 for DUB. I took 3 per day until the bleeding stopped, then 2 per day x4 days, then once daily. I was told to continue on once daily but skip the placebo week and continue on to next pack. However, I am also a breastfeeding mom and was told that this medication could lower my milk production. If this became a problem, I could stop. 4 days into my once daily dosing I stopped due to low milk production. Now 4 days later I am having very heavy bleeding and cramping. Almost like a normal period, but flow is a lot heavier. Do I wait and see if bleeding resolves or do I restart the Sprintec? And if I restart it, how many should I take per day?
In general according to the FDA, as you stated, sprintec is not recommended during breastfeeding.
Your doctor can consider a progesterone only hormone/birth control to help with the bleeding. These are safe during breast feeding and they do not have any significant effect on milk production. Can be started while the bleeding is occurring.
I hope this helps
