Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was told by the wife of my patient that after her husband started on topiramate that her husband experienced a nightmare of me in his dream ( & he no longer wants to come to me, despite I saved his life from alcoholic cardiomyopathy over the last 3 years; IS THIS A KNOWN SIDE EFFECT OF THIS DRUG???
Topiramate can cause various CNS & psychological side effects like confusion, psychomotor slowing, nervousness, mood problems, may cause some people to be agitated, irritable, or display other abnormal behaviors, emotional liability, depersonalization, hallucinations, psychosis etc., but it is not known to cause any nightmare as described. The present problem may be alcohol-related encephalopathy (Wernicke).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care. All the best.
Regards,
Dr. Tushar Kanti Biswas, Internal Medicine Specialist
