Am 48. Had hysterectomy may 2013. Ovaries were retained . Uterus and cervix removed. Been having regular monthly cycles since then with irregular spotting too. Now I have 2 chocolate cysts on my ovaries measuring 7.5cms. Doctor says another surgery is tough. Hence suggested zoladex injection 3.5 to shrink cyst . is this correct method of treatment? Will cysts shrink permanently since am nearing menopause ? What are side effects? Thank you for your time.
Zoladex (goserelin) is a man-made form of a hormone that regulates many processes in the body. Goserelin overstimulates the body's own production of certain hormones, which causes that production to shut down temporarily. Zoladex is used endometriosis, so it will works to shrink your chocolate cysts on your ovaries. For use in the management of endometriosis, including pain relief and reduction of endometriotic lesions for the duration of therapy: 3.6 mg subcutaneously into the upper abdominal wall once. The 3.6 mg dosage may be repeated every 28 days. The recommended duration of therapy is 6 months.
Most common side effects of Zoladex are: sudden sweating and feelings of warmth (also called hot flashes)Light, irregular vaginal bleeding and stopping of menstrual periods. The most recent studies have shown that endometriosis reoccurs at a rate of 20-25 percent.
