What Are The Side Effects Of Zoloft And Melatonin?

My son is 12 and currently takes trileptal and zoloft, the doc has us giving him two trileptal in the morning and at night, the zoloft and melatonin at night. Hehad recently complained of tightness in his chest when he takes the nighttime dose. Is this a typical side effect or a serious one?

Hello! Trileptal (oxcarbamazepine) has several side effects. The most common are dizziness, diplopia, headache, nausea and vomiting, fatigueand somnolence, vertigo, dyspepsia (which may explain chest tightness). Long term use may cause osteopenia,and osteoporosis, fractures related to the above, difficulty with cooncentration, coordination and gait disturbances.
Zoloft (sertraline) may cause in high frequency headache, insomnia, diarrhea, nausea, drymouth, fatigue and dizziness. Less common side effects are agitation and anxiety (which may explain chest tightness), bone fractures.
Melatonin is a natural substances that is normally secreted in the mammals brain. It also can have some unpleasant effects like dcreased alertness, fatigue, dizziness, headache, irritability, depression, dysphoria and abdominal risk.
There are no interactions found with these drugs.
