What Are The Side Effects Of Alcohol Addiction?

Mother is a very bad alcolhic. She is 64 yrs. old. The last two months have been almost 99% intoxicated. She has not showered in 8 weeks either,not able to keep food down,(vomits)bloody crotch, feet and ankles swelled, and purple on bottom, heart rate is 120 per minute. Fell two weeks ago and I think she cracked an upper rib. This is not the usual for her. What can I do to get her medical attention if she is refusing going to the er or doctors. She lives alone in an apartment.

I can understand how difficult it is to convince an addicted person for treatment.
Still there is hope. A few medicines like Naltrexone has been shown very effective in reducing craving of alcohol, even if a person continues to abuse it. Over a period of time it reduces the primacy and desire for the substance.

I think it will be a wise step to start this medicine if she is not willing to come forward for help. You may discuss this issue with nearby psychiatrist/ER.
