Hello,

I understand your concerns but I can't possibly have an opinion about that because I can't examine you and I didn't see any pictures. You can upload pictures if you have and it would help a lot if you have pictures from different days to demonstrate how the lesion evolved. Lesions caused by herpes are pretty characteristic and I'm sure your doctor is able to recognize them. If you still have doubts then you'd better discuss them with your doctor. Let me also note that thrush is also pretty characteristic in appearance.

Antibiotics are not effective for cold sores. Antiviral drugs (against herpes) is the recommended treatment, that is drugs like acyclovir.

Regarding your symptoms, painkillers may help with the pain but sometimes the pain is severe. Start with paracetamol (a mild option). If it's not enough to control the pain then a mild opioid can be added. If the pain relief is still not enough then a NSAID can be used. The itching is not easy to deal with... Some hydroxyzine may help to reduce the itching a bit and keep you calmer. Remember to discuss any treatment options with your doctor!

I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind Regards!
