What Are The Side Effects Of Birth Control Pills?

I stopped taking my birth control about 2 weeks ago and now I m having headaches that don t seem to go away and some upset stomach symptoms. I rarely get headaches so I m wondering if this is from stopping the birth control. I ve also went off birth control before that was the monthly packs and had no problem but I switched to the seasonique bc and have only been on it for about 6 months and have had complications such as cramping while on it so I decided to give my body a break by going off of it and now I m wondering if that was a good idea..should I switch back to my old brand? Are these common symptoms when you go off birth control?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Birth control is a way to prevent pregnancy. Using pills as birth control is hormonal mode of contraception. The hormones used include estrogen and progesterone. When birth control pills are taken correctly, it is up to 99.9% effective.
Seasonique is a type of extended-cycle pills, which use a different configuration of hormones.
Common Side effects include: Nausea, Weight gain, Sore or swollen breasts, Abdominal pain, Spotting between periods, Lighter periods and Mood changes.
In case you need to change the mode of contraception, you need to consult Gynecologist so that you would be advised the one which would suit you.
In case you keep switching over from one pill to another, it may not ensure protection completely and you might experience many side effects associated with them.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
