Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have started birth control for the first time. I have been on this for approx 4 months. Since taking it, I have noticed about two weeks in to the dosage, my clitoris feels like it is covered in paper cuts. Its dry and hurts to touch. I have not changed soaps. I use Dove unscented. Still using the same laundry detergent. I dont take bubble baths. What could this be from or any suggestions on how to make the pain go away;
Yes, oral contraceptive pills can cause vaginal and clitoral dryness due to changes in hormonal balance. For the pain you can take an oral analgesic like ibuprofen. For the dryness stay well hydrated, use lubricants during intercourse and vaginal creams. However, it it does not settle, ask your gynecologist to change your mode of contraception.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Hiba Tehrim, General & Family Physician
