Hi,
Clavam has a combination of two antibiotics. They are amoxicillin and
clavulanic acid. It is commonly prescribed for a variety of bacterial infections, including
respiratory tract infections,
urinary tract infections, and skin infections. While most people tolerate Clavam well, some individuals may experience side effects. The common side effects of Clavam include:
- Gastrointestinal upset: This includes symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and
abdominal pain. These side effects may occur due to the disruption of the normal gut flora by the antibiotics.
- Allergic reactions: Some individuals may develop an allergic reaction to Clavam, which can cause symptoms such as hives, rash, itching, and
difficulty breathing.
- Liver damage: Rarely, Clavam can cause liver damage, which can manifest as symptoms such as jaundice, dark urine, and abdominal pain.
- Kidney problems: In some cases, Clavam can cause kidney damage, which can cause symptoms such as
frequent urination, pain in the abdomen or lower back, and
difficulty passing urine.
- Blood disorders: In rare cases, Clavam can cause changes in blood cell counts, leading to symptoms such as bruising, bleeding, or an increased risk of infections.
If you are experiencing some side effects, speak with your doctor. They may be able to adjust your dose or switch you to a different antibiotic if necessary.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
