What Are The Side Effects Of Emergency Contraceptive Pills?

Hello, Doctor! I had unprotected sex on the 21st of August, it was my 4th day of the period, my partner didn t come inside but just in case I took a 72hr pill within 24 hours. However, today, on August 29, I started to bleed, it s brownish, reddish vaginal bleeding. What does it mean? I m worried...

Some Facts to Know about Emergency Contraceptive pills:

1. Emergency Contraceptive pills offers you an effective way to prevent an unplanned pregnancy viz., prevent a woman from becoming pregnant after she has/had unprotected intercourse. More than 80 % effective in preventing pregnancy after unprotected sex.
2. Emergency Contraceptive pills works by following way viz., altering the lining layer of uterus, prevents release of an egg from ovary, prevents sperm from reaching egg by making cervical fluid thick.
3. Remember, Emergency contraceptive pills is not an abortion pill.

Yes. Small amount of bleeding is a temporary effect of Emergency Contraceptive pills.

Many Possible side effects are viz.,nausea and/or vomiting-headache-feeling tired-fatigue-feeling dizzy-lower abdominal pain-vaginal bleeding-breast tenderness-irregular bleeding-delayed menstrual cycle etc.,

Vaginal bleeding will typically end within three days of taking the medicine. If it does not, or if the bleeding becomes heavier, may be a sign of a more serious problem. Immediately visit an OBGYN.
