Please do not feel guilty of having intercourse with your wife during the first trimester. Frankly, intercourse done modestly will not cause any harm to the pregnancy. It is only when the pregnancy is at a precarious stage like threatened abortion or ectopic pregnancy, etc. we advise the couple not to have sex and disturb the pregnancy. If you can control yourself, do observe abstinence in the first trimester. Even later during pregnancy also have a gentle sex. Full insertion of the penis in to the vagina is not advised. In order to have control over the insertion, there are many positions described in Kamshastra by Vatsyayan. Intercourse in side position or approaching your wife's vagina from behind are some of such positions which I have advised to many of my patients over last more than 35 years and all of them were happy. However, if your wife shows any sign or symptom of risk to the pregnancy or unstable pregnancy, then you MUST observe sexual abstinence. Otherwise, enjoy the pregnancy with full care and enjoy your sexual life too - but cautiously.
