Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There are two types of female hormones (
estrogen and
progesterone) which are used for birth control purpose. Nexplanon, as you might already know, belongs to the category of Progesterone. As a single hormone, it gives good protection against
pregnancy (99%) but bleeding irregularities such as scanty periods or irregular spotting or complete absence of period may occur.
Cilest is a combination of estrogen and progesterone. It gives good control of bleeding during periods and is also a very good birth control (99.8%) pill. So, using them together will give you more protection.
However, once the bleeding irregularity is controlled, you do not necessarily need to use both methods. if you are not comfortable with the bleeding problems with Nexplanon, then have it removed and continue with Cilest.
It is important for you to see a doctor in this context, so that they may understand your
contraceptive needs in entirety and exclude any condition that may make one or the other methods unnecessary to use.
I hope this helps you to make the choice for the right birth control method without undue worries.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sabina Hussain
