Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had been taking prolomet xl12.5 and now 9after 8months) I was advised by the doctor to take prolomet xl 25mg which made we feel very weak and had shortage of breath when I walked so I stopped using it and I am thiking of taking the previous one give advice.
Thanks for the query. Prolomet XL consists of Metoprolol, which is a cardioselective beta blocker. It may be used treatment regimen of hypertension, angina, acute myocardial infarction, cardiac arrythmia and congestive cardiac failure. Common side effects include symptoms of bradycardia (resting heart rate slower than 60 beats per minute)- lethargy, weakness and dizziness. Unlike the non selective beta blockers Metoprolol rarely causes symptoms of bronchial asthma. The symptoms which you are experiencing may be due to excessive bradycardia.
You can go back to the 12.5 mg dosage regimen, if you were symptom free with that, but I would advise you to consult your cardiologist for the same. Other drugs from the same group may be added or the group may be changed, if the symptoms are unbearable.
Hope this helps you.
