What Are The Side Effects Of Smoking Marijuana During Pregnancy?
I know someone who has been smoking marijuana her entire pregnancy. She is in her last two moths of pregnancy and she just stopped smoking marijuana because she doesn't want CPS to find out. But could that smoking all that time still show up when the baby is born? This girl will continue to smoke after the baby is born. Is there a way CPS could get involved?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. Marijuana smoking in pregnancy affects baby in many ways. It can cause low birth weight babies/ abortions/still births. Baby has low resistance & easily gets various disease like asthama. Brain/intellectual growth of baby is affected- producing behavioral/learning difficulties. - as she has stopped smoking for last 2 months- she may escape legal involvement at delivery- but if she starts smoking again while breast feeding, she herself can be caught by drug in breast milk/ baby will have side effects even after birth. - The best option is to stop smoking Marjunia since planning a child birth- because it's a mother's moral duty to provide a strong body & mind to her own baby! Thanks.
